It begins in the late 19th century where President Abraham Lincoln makes Thanksgiving an official holiday. With all the transaction activity, Black Friday became one of the most profitable days of the year in the US even until now. Here are several countries which also take turns in this big sale day: Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Mexico, etc. However, it was a Canadian store that hosts the first Thanksgiving parade in 1905. Many businesses in the US started adding the day after Thanksgiving as another paid holiday since people began calling in “sick” just to shop and spend a long weekend.

The existence of Black Friday has inspired Jack Ma, through Alibaba, to make a similar shopping moment called “Single’s Day” every 11 November. In Indonesia, Black Friday usually associated with National Online Shopping Day (Hari Belanja Online Nasional/Harbolnas).
